Student Crime Solvers Program
In September 2004 a Student Crime Solvers Program was established by Franklin County. The purpose of the Student Crime Solvers Program is to ensure the best safety and security that can be provided for our students and their school. Subsequent thereto, a grant of $10,000.00 was received from the Pennsylvania Department of Community Development and the program moved forward with great success. Money from the grant pays for many aspects of the program in the county schools
The Student Crime Solvers Program is for junior and senior high students in Franklin County schools. The program provides students the opportunity to join the program and manage it as a club or an organization within their respective schools. Their voluntary efforts will materially help to solve school problems and have a positive impact on the surrounding community.
The Student Crime Solvers Program is part of the Franklin County Crime Solvers which is a dedicated volunteer organization of local citizens, and business organizations pledged to the reduction of unsolved local community crimes. This goal is accomplished by establishing rewards for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of person or persons responsible for criminal acts within Franklin County. The information concerning the crime is distributed to all of our print and electronic media who, in the spirit of dedicated public service, publicize the facts of the event and that a reward, up to $2,000, is available to individuals who supply information needed to solve the crime. The student program follows the same format as the Franklin County Crime Solvers, where an individual has a tip and calls it in. The main difference is that the caller would be a student and all actions would be under the aegis of the respective school and/or the student's parents.
The program, supervised by the Franklin County Crime Solvers board, is available to all public school districts in Franklin County. Schools, however, have partial responsibility for the program management within their respective school. In substance, the student program is run more by the schools.
